Hello, I am Devyani.
I’m a User Experience Researcher living in San Francisco who loves dogs and Studio Ghibli.
I moved to the Bay Area in 2019 and have been trying to make San Francisco my home. I received my design training at two premier design schools in India, where I studied design. For a long time, I perceived design as a tool that helps bring revolutionary ideas to life. This primarily focused my practice on the functional aesthetics of products. However, I realized that design problems exist within many different facets of society beyond just products, such as urban transit systems, healthcare, and public policy. Importantly, Design can address these problems. This half baked epiphany changed my perspective on design from simply creating objects to designing research strategies aimed at improving systems.
As a design researcher, my goal is to be perceptive of the user's problems, needs, and environment, something that was previously only superficially present in my ‘designerly’ activities. I am imaginatively excited and curious when it comes to approaching problems.
When I am not designing or researching, I am often seen people-watching and taking photographs of people, loving my dog, and nerding out on board games.
